We recently were saddened to learn from the Melville J. Herskovits Library of African Studies at Northwestern University that Hans Panofsky died on July 1, 2013 in Madison, Wisconsin (US).
From 1959 until 1991, Hans served as Herskovits Library curator…. In 1985, Hans was the recipient of the ASA’s [US African Studies Association’s] Distinguished Service to African Studies Award. In 1989, the ALC [Africana Librarians Council] sponsored publication of Africana Resources and Collections; Three Decades of Development and Achievement-A Festschrift in Honor of Hans Panofsky, which includes two biographical chapters.
A memorial service will be held on the Northwestern campus on a date to be announced in the near future.
