Ivor Wilks Obituary

The Program of African Studies at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois today announced the sad news that Professor Emeritus Ivor Wilks (African history) died at his home in Wales on October 7, 2014. In 1984, Wilks was appointed Melville J. Herskovits Professor of African Studies by Northwestern, a position he held until his retirement in 1993. From 1961 to 1966, he was Research Professor in African History at the University of Ghana and his most famous work, Asante in the 19th Century, remains a standard text today for students of African History around the world.
