Down and out in the mp3 market

The sahelsounds blog includes several detaild and interesting posts on a market for mp3 song files in Nouackchott, Mauritania: Down and out in the mp3 market.

Meanwhile, the 3bute blog has picked up these stories and created a web comic based on them:

3bute is devoted to writing that grapples with the question of African modernity, and we have a special fondness for writing by African bloggers. We “pay 3bute” to the writers by extracting 3 pages of mashable, narrative art from what they’ve written (making sure their words remain intact), followed by a 3-minute discussion on why we selected a piece.”

How cool is that? I could could spend all morning just reading the stories and links through these sources…not to mention listening to the music.

Credit goes to the Afrocyberpunk blog, which is how it got to bOING bOING where I picked it up from .
